A position is available for a Ph.D. student to work in the UPRISING project, aiming to valorise seaweed and mushroom residues for obtaining ingredients and materials for food applications.

The hosting place is the BIOFUN lab from the Packaging group at Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA-CSIC) in Valencia (Spain). The IATA is a Severo Ochoa Excellence Research Centre and the candidate will be able to work in a multidisciplinary environment, contributing to a collaborative project interacting with researchers from CIAL-CSIC, the University of Valencia, the Polytechnical University of Valencia and the University of Santiago de Compostela.

The candidate must be highly self-motivated and dedicated, be able to work independently but also to interact with other lab members, and ideally have previous experience in food chemistry and be familiar with physical-chemical characterization tools. Candidates should already have a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline. Tasks will include carrying out extraction from various biomass sources, chemical and structural characterizations and digestibility studies, amongst others.

Funding for four years will be provided by an FPI fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. The tentative start of the fellowship and thus the position would be in early 2024.

Interested persons should apply exclusively per e-mail as soon as possible and in any case before September 30, 2023, and send a detailed CV, as well as a cover letter including motivation and contact details of two referees to Amparo López Rubio (amparo.lopez@iata.csic.es). International candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.
